Philippines to host Let’s Do It! Regional Conference 2014 for Asia

A number of non-profit organizations, volunteers and delegates from across Asia will get together in Cebu, Philippines this year for the staging of the second Let’s Do It! Regional Conference for Asia on November 27-30 2014.

To open the conference on November 27, local cleanup movements, organizations and artists of the EcoArt Exhibit 2014 will be recognized and awarded at the Cebu City Hall, to be participated by more than 50 delegates all over Asia and Europe.

The Regional Conference 2014 for Asia is organized by Let’s Do It in partnership with SEED4Com, Clean Up the Philippines Movement, Office of Cebu City Committee on Environment, Province of Cebu and the Rotary Club of Mandaue East and will be held at the San Remigio Beach Club Resort, the official accommodation partner.

During the conference, following themes will be discussed and workshops will take place: Let's Do It World - experiences from different countries, team building, PR / communication, marketing / finances, logistics and mapping, identity of the project, Zero Waste and waste management in the future.

The province of Cebu has been one of the first respondents to take action of relief efforts right after the earthquake struck Bohol and the typhoon Haiyan hit most parts of the Visayas region. Previous disasters have made us Filipinos more proactive and aware of what’s going on around our environment.  As volunteers from different sectors, we will come together and take action as one to have a better and cleaner world as various environmental issues are starting to knock on our doorstep.

After the LDI Asia Regional Conference, we hope to push on our own National Cleanup Day in the Philippines that will fall on every third Saturday of September to unite all efforts to be done around the country. To have our own National Cleanup Day will raise the awareness nationwide and encourage more Filipinos to continue working on our advocacy, offer workshops and organize events that will lead to positively contribute for ecological sustainability.

EcoArt Exhibit 2014 on September 26-28

Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Development for Communities (SEED4Com) is also pleased to invite you to be a part of the EcoArt Exhibit 2014 on September 26-28,  2014 along Paseo Ciudad, Ayala Center – Cebu. The EcoArt Exhibit 2014 is a part of our contribution to the World Cleanup Movement as we will host the 2nd LDI Asia Regional Conference this November.

The EcoArt Exhibit will also be moved to other public spaces and schools (to be determined) for the rest of the year, reaching out to more people to raise awareness and the advocacy to respond to the pressing issues on our environment and climate change.

The idea of bringing art together with information about our environmental responsibility and sustainability will guide us through a more Earth friendly lifestyle and will serve as a continuous reminder of what the students, artists and the community can learn from each other.

EcoCamp in Gilutongan Island, Cebu

SEED4Com with participation from Rotary Club Mandaue East, Kindred Nomads, and other individual volunteers has adopted the island of Gilutongan to help the community develop a waste management program by working together with the locals and other interested stakeholders in addressing ecologically sustainable development one island at a time.

Calling themselves as Island Warrior Trash Heroes, individuals and volunteers from different organizations have started doing the coastal cleanup last August 30, 2014.  As their own contribution, the locals of Gilutongan have followed this initiative, making it as a weekly cleanup to make their island a sustainable ecotourism destination free from trash.

On October 25 - 26, SEED4Com with the Island Warrior Trash Heroes will be having their second EcoCamp in the island for coastal clean up and mangrove planting. The group will also be holding  workshop and training for the community to come up with a plan of action to implement a waste management program and be able to provide clean and safe water, livelihood and education for the families of Gilutongan island.

This initiative is in support to the Let's Do It! movement across the globe.

Fastest-expanding civic movements across the globe

Let’s Do It was born in 2008 in a little country of Northern Europe – Estonia, where thousands of people came together to get rid of 10,000 tons of illegal garbage from roadsides, forests and towns, cleaning the entire country in just 5 hours.

The action inspired people from many different countries to do the same. Thus, the network of people, determined to organize massive cleanup actions to clean their home countries, started to grow. By today, almost 200 different inspired cleanup actions, engaging altogether about 10 million volunteers, have already taken place in different countries.

Let's Do It! is a civic led non-profit and non-political movement. Let's Do It! World is an accredited member of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In 2012, Let's Do It! movement, hand in hand with hundreds of volunteers, NGOs and many other groups and organizations, came together to initiate the most ambitious global volunteer action ever - World Cleanup 2012: a series of local, national and regional cleanup events taking place from 24th of March 2012 until 25th of September 2012. By now, the movement has reached 112 countries who are in the Let's Do It! network.

Let’s come together to see how we can all contribute to the clean world goal - uniting 5% of the world's population in Let's Do It campaigns - come and speak your mind, your dreams, your experiences and your ideas – so that we can work with these as a unstoppable global team!
